Bengaluru's New Double-Decker Flyover Project: Promises Economic Boom
India has made significant economic strides in recent years, with Bengaluru, the capital of Karnataka, experiencing a notable boom. As the IT capital of India, Bengaluru has seen substantial growth over the past decade. A new double-decker flyover in the city is a testament to this progress. Also, Bengaluru's growth spans various sectors, including technology, automobiles, and food.
The city is now comparable to Delhi in terms of economic importance. This growth is not solely attributed to the local Kannadigas; people from Kerala and Tamil Nadu also contribute significantly. Additionally, there has been an influx of North Indians into Bengaluru.

With the rising population, traffic congestion has become a major issue in Bengaluru. The city's traffic is often the subject of jokes and memes, highlighting the long travel times within the city. To address this, the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has been working on improving the transportation system.
One of the key projects aimed at easing traffic congestion is the construction of double-decker flyovers on major roads in south Bengaluru. These flyovers feature two levels: a road for vehicles below and a metro rail flyover above. This design is both labour-intensive and time-consuming.
The Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) has announced that the construction of a 3.3 km double-decker flyover is nearing completion. Initially scheduled for completion in October 2021, the project faced delays and is now almost three years behind schedule.
This double-decker flyover aims to connect south Bengaluru to Whitefield and Electronic City, both hubs for the software industry. The vehicle flyover is constructed at a height of 8 metres from the ground, with the metro rail flyover built 8 metres above that, totalling 16 metres from the road.
The flyover passes through important areas such as Electronic City, HSR Layout, and BTM Layout. This innovative design utilises the same pillars for both levels, reducing construction costs and saving space.
