Ayrton Senna’s Replica Helmet Stands Tall At RM Sotheby’s Dubai Auction
Ayrton Senna's replica helmet will be put up for auction by RM Sotheby's in Dubai. Though many consider Senna's outfits priceless, this helmet which is up for auction is a replica and according to a OneArabia report, this replica helmet is priced between USD 7,000 and USD 10,000.
Though the helmet at the auction is a replica, it is gaining plenty of traction in the motorsport community and we would not be surprised if the helmet in question is auctioned off at a much higher price.
Interested people can now register for the auction which is scheduled to take place on March 9, 2024, in Dubai. The auction also includes Micheal Schumacher's OMP Racing Suit from the year 2000, truly a collector's heaven.
Coming back to the Senna's helmet replica, Formula 1 fans and collectors consider this a visual representation of the motoring legend's life on and off the track. In fact, Senna is considered by many as the greatest Formula 1 driver of all time.
Speaking about Senna's helmet, the bright yellow colour of the helmet, embellished with green and blue stripes, mirrors Brazil's national colours, and this design stands as one of the most recognizable designs in the world of motorsport.
However, these colour choices for the Senna's helmet are not just a reflection of the Brazilian flag but a genius way to ensure visibility on the racetrack. In fact, back in those days, many drivers wore white helmets, and Senna's helmet just stood out from them.
That being said, Senna did not design his helmet. The genius behind the Senna's helmet was Sid Mosca, the founder of Sid Special Paint. Mosca had also worked with other Brazilian racing legends such as Nelson Piquet and Emerson Fittipaldi before he worked with the legend himself.
Unlike most drivers in motorsport, Senna's helmet underwent minimal changes even when he switched between different helmet brands such as Arai, Bell, Rheos, and Shoei. However, some changes were made such as the shade of yellow and replacements of the dark blue stripe with black.
