Dubai AIrShow: Archer Aviation Midnight eVTOL Taxi Showcased - Attracts More Partners
American firm Archer Aviation signed several deals at the recently concluded Dubai Airshow signing deals with multiple firms in the UAE as it looks to further boost its presence in the country.
Global Aerospace Logistics (GAL) and Advanced Military Maintenance Repair and Overhaul Centre (AMMROC), two key players in the UAE's aviation sector, signed an agreement with Archer Aviation to explore the potential of the firm's eVTOL technology in the UAE.

Though the specifics of the agreement have not been disclosed, it is clear that the collaboration will focus on advancing sustainable aviation technology. Archer and the Abu Dhabi Investment Office recently announced their plans in to make the UAE Archer's first international launch partner, with the goal of commencing electric air taxi operations in both Abu Dhabi and Dubai in 2026.
The American firm and Dubai-based private heliport operator Air Chateau International also signed a preliminary agreement for the purchase of up to 100 of the firm's Midnight eVTOLs worth $500 million at the Dubai AirShow.

As part of the agreement, Air Chateau will make a pre-delivery payment of $1 million towards its order before the end of the calendar year. An additional $4 million of pre-delivery payments will be made further down the line once definitive agreements covering the planned purchase are formalised.
The Archer Aviation Midnight eVTOL air taxi will be at the forefront of these endeavours with the three UAE-based firms. The massive Midnight eVTOL sports 12 electrically powered propellers with the tilt rotors sporting 5 blades and the eVTOl only rotors sporting just two.

With a maximum payload capacity of 456 kilos (1,000 pounds), the Midnight has been optimised to carry up to 5 people for distances up to 80 kilometres on a single charge. However, the Archer Midnight is capable of covering 161km (100 miles) on a single charge.
With six independent battery packs powering six sets of propellers each, the Archer Midnight can reach a top speed of 241km/h and can cruise at an altitude of 610 metres (2,000 feet) above the ground.

The battery packs also offer rapid charging capabilities. Archer Aviation claims that the Midnight can perform back-to-back ~ 20 miles (32km) flights with only ~12 minutes of charge time in between.
The Midnight has also been designed to be as safe as possible with eVTOL air taxi's avionics systems including four flight control computers, with redundant inertial navigation, GNSS and AGL sensors to ensure robust and reliable data to the pilot (later versions will be autonomous). Each pair of forward and aft electric motors is independently powered, helping to ensure the aircraft can safely complete a flight should an entire battery pack fail.
Thoughts About The Archer Aviation Midnight
The Archer Aviation Midnight is a truly groundbreaking aircraft. Designed with sustainability in mind, it utilises advanced battery technology to provide a clean, efficient mode of transport. The aircraft's sleek design and impressive performance specifications make it a standout model in the emerging eVTOL market and something we should look forward to seeing zipping over the UAE's skies in the near future.
