Ambulance-Taxis Get You Through Traffic In Russia

If a businessman needs to get to a meeting in a hurry he could hire one of these taxis in the guise of ambulances for 6000 Rubles (Rs 10,500, ~ $200). These ambulances look exactly the part with the right sort of stickers and graphics on the outside and the all important emergency light on the roof. The difference lies on the inside. These vehicles are no less luxurious when compared to limousines, with plush leather lined interiors and sofas.
The unlawful practice came to light when police caught one of these ‘ambulances' after they thought the driver looked "strange", who did not look like an ambulance driver. When they looked inside they found civilians in perfect health instead of medical personnel. The authorities have since been instructed to keep an eye out for these fake ambulances.
People misusing emergency lights to get through traffic is not new, but offering ambulances for hire is sinking to a new low that could undermine the status of an actual ambulance on emergency duty.
