Cricketers in India are often revered by fans in the same way most people worship deities. While they carry themselves, they too are human and prone to losing their heads over incidents on the field. Sometimes, this ugly side of India's Boys in Blue spills out off the field as was the case when Ambati Rayudu (who last played for India against Zimbabwe in 2016). Rayudu was involved in an altercation with a senior citizen in the city of Hyderabad.
Rayudu was driving an old Land Rover Freelander 2 around Hyderabad when a senior citizen got on his case for the rash way he was driving. Unfortunately, instead of ignoring or responding properly to the older gentleman, Rayudu flew into a rage, and a few blows were exchanged between the angry duo, with the old man resorting to abuse. Thankfully, the cricketer, who plays for the Mumbai Indias in the IPL, was calmed down by his friend (who was riding along with him) and the growing crowd and later left the spot.
It is incidents like this, which make us wonder why we even bother talking about road manners and role models. While the cricketer may have been provoked, he should have been the better man and kept his temper in check despite the abuse being hurled at him, after all, he is someone people look up to. As for his driving, if he was driving rashly, we hope this incident forces him to take a calmer approach when behind the wheel.
