The ABT XGT Is A GT2 Inspired Final Goodbye To The Audi R8
The Audi R8 might have ended its production run earlier this year, but the supercar's legacy is far from over. ABT Sportsline, a German racing team and tuner, has bid a final goodbye to the R8 by launching the road-legal, GT2-inspired ABT XGT.
ABT Sportsline has transformed the Audi R8 into what seems to be the most extreme iteration of the German mid-engined sports car. And how has the Kempten im Allgäu based tuning house done this?

The XGT, which underwent testing at the Nurburgring, boasts a striking exterior that mirrors the R8 LMS GT2 endurance racer. The limited-edition XGT's exterior is virtually identical to the race car's.
the ABT XGT sports a wider and longer body, larger wheel arches that accommodate bespoke centre lock forged wheels shod in Pirelli P Zero Trofeo R tires, and revised bumpers. Aerodynamic upgrades include front canards, a splitter, side skirt extensions, a large diffuser, and the prominent GT2-style swan-neck rear wing.

Inside, the XGT retains its race-focused interior, supplemented by features necessary for road legality and usability. These additions include a modified instrument cluster, a proper handbrake, central locking, a reversing camera, electrically operated wing mirrors, and air conditioning.
Powering the XGT is the familiar 5.2-litre naturally-aspirated V10 engine that powered the R8. However, in the XGT, the engine has been tuned to deliver 640bhp, a significant increase from the R8 GT's 612bhp. The torque figure is stated to be over 550Nm while the top speed is 310km/h.

Ensuring that the world hears the XGT when it races past them, ABT Sportsline has fitted the road-legal race car with a full exhaust system that also includes catalytic converters and lambda probes to help it comply with emission norms.
The ABT XGT uses a seven-speed automatic transmission to deliver power to the rear wheels. Notably, the XGT weighs less than the standard R8, tipping the scales at 1,450kg compared to the R8 RWD's 1,570kg.

The centre-lock wheels mentioned earlier are ABT's own forged units that measure 19 inches at the front and 20 inches at the rear and come draped in Pirelli P Zero Trofeo R tyres - 305/30 ZR19 102Y (front) and 315/30 ZR20 104Y (rear).
Braking duties on the ABT Sportsline XGT are handled by steel discs. The front discs are 380mm units while the rear sports 355mm discs. The XGT's brakes are aided by an eight-stage racing ABS.

Thoughts About The ABT XGT
With only 99 units planned, each priced at 598,000 euros inclusive of VAT (Rs 5.46 crore), the ABT XGT is a very rare beast that pays tribute to a supercar that took Audi to new levels of performance and fame. ABT Sportsline couldn't have picked a better way to say goodbye to the iconic Audi R8.
