726 AI Cameras Installed To Nab Traffic Violators In Kerala – 30,000 Penalty Notices Can Be Sent In A Day
Under the 'Safe Kerala' project, the Kerala Motor Vehicle Department has installed 726 AI-powered cameras to nab traffic violators in the state. These AI cameras according to the Kerala MVD is capable of issuing 30,000 penalties per day.
According to the Kerala Motor Vehicle Department, these 725 AI cameras have been installed across the state to overcome the difficulties faced by the general public while conducting roadside checking.

Furthermore, these AI cameras have been programmed to prioritise traffic violations such as carrying more than two people on a two-wheeler, using mobile phone while driving, riding without a helmet, red-light violations, and not wearing seatbelts while driving.
Though the AI Camera system used by the Kerala MVD is a 'Fully Automated Traffic Enforcement System', Motor Vehicle Inspectors will be checking the traffic violations manually before sending the violation notices.

Speaking about these newly installed AI cameras in Kerala, these AI cameras are powered by solar energy and comes with enough storage to store 6 months of traffic violation footage.
On top of that, these AI cameras come with 4G connectivity to transfer the collected data that was analysed by the visual processing unit in the camera box. Also, this data will be sent to the control room of the Kerala MVD.

One of the major reasons to set up AI cameras in Kerala is to minimise traffic violations and thus reduce the number of motorcycle and car accidents. In fact, more than 13,000 two-wheeler accidents were reported back in 2022, out of which 1,288 people died.
According to the data disclosed by the Kerala government, there were a total of 43,910 reported road accidents in 2022, where 34,638 people were injured and 4,317 people lost their lives.
Thoughts About AI Cameras In Kerala
