Driving during the night can be both thrilling and dangerous. There are several drivers among us who prefer to drive during the night due to reduced traffic and also due to the chance of driving fast. However even a small mistake can become fatal. With reduced visibility there is every chance that you can hit something that appears in front of suddenly.

A survey on road safety has indicated that the possibility of an accident is three times more during the night than in the night. For some of you who have to drive during the night here are some tips that will help you avoid an untoward incident.

1.Do not drive fast as you cannot see to far during the night. You wont be able to respond quickly to oncoming traffic.

2.Drivers can only see the area enlightened by their car's headlights. Such reduced visibility means any amount of carefulness is not enough. Be aware of your surroundings.

3.One cannot see the road clearly during the night. Having sleep eyes will make it even more difficult. If you feel you are sleepy,it is ideal that you take a nap rather than continue driving.

4.Drivers tend to get tired more quickly while driving in the dark. Drivers also become lazy which increases the risk of accidents.

5.Check all headlights, rear lights, signal lights and brake lights are working properly before starting a night journey.

6.Drunken driving is dangerous at any given moment. But the possibility of an accident increases even more during the night. Please abstain from drinking if you have to drive.

7.Even smoking can have a harmful effect on your driving during the night. The nicotine and carbon monoxide in the cigarette smoke can reduce the clarity of your vision.

8.Always use the beam light if you are unable to see properly.

9.While driving in traffic during the night always maintain a safe distance between your vehicles and the one in front of you.

10.Clean the windscreens and mirrors before you start driving.

11.Do not always use the beam light during the night as drivers coming from the opposite direction can be blinded partially due to it.

12.Always have some breaks while driving. Have a snack or a drink to keep you energised.

13.The few hours just before sunrise are considered to be most dangerous for road accidents during the night. Be extra cautious during this time.

Following some of this tips will definitely help you enjoy a safe and secure drive during the night. It is better to be safe than sorry. Safe driving is always a better option than dangerous driving.
