Night Road Accident
The probability of a road accident increases with increasing darkness. Therefore the number of road accidents especially on highways are higher during the night. It is a fact that many people do not prefer to travel long distances during the night but a new dangerous trend has emerged in cities particularly among college going crowds.

People in their late teens and early twenties are increasingly going out on joy rides during late nights. They feel the lack of traffic will allow them to venture out and explore the full extent of their vehicles' speeds. 24 hour coffee shops and dhabhas on highways have become the hot spots of such night outs. Highways do not have traffic policeman thus providing care free people ample opportunities to drive recklessly.

Three young students out of four from Bangalore lost their lives yesterday after ramming their Honda City in to a parked truck forcing Drivespark to write this tip of the day. Only one student has managed to survive the road accident but is still under critical condition. The sad fact is the parents of the people killed did not even know their kids had died in an accident until they saw the bodies.

Many rich parents present cars to their children after they turn eighteen or 21. But they fail to monitor their driving. College goers with access to cars will always try to go for night outs along with friends. They have limited driving skills and yet try to over speed. By doing this they not only put their lives in danger but also their friends and other road users.

If you are some one who likes to go on joy driving trips or night outs, please do follow some of the safe night driving tips below.

  • Although speed limits are set for the city traffic, you need to follow that on highways too. High speeds will mean you will have little time to react to any obstruction.
  • Do not drive when you are sleepy. If you feel drowsy or tired get stop and get out of the car to get some fresh air.
  • You will not be able to see parked vehicles during the night if they do not have their warning lights on, so always be careful while going on the left side of the road.
  • Watch out for vehicles that have stopped bang in the middle of the road. There have been instances of road accidents where vehicles have rammed in to trucks or buses that are under repair.
  • Never venture in to roads that you are not familiar in the night.
  • Do not use loud music while driving. It will not only distract you but also restrict your hearing ability of other vehicles.
  • Do not ever drink and drive. This is a very dangerous practice especially during the night.
