Volkswagen XL1 Gets Delivered To First Happy Customer
Volkswagen has sold its first XL1 diesel hybrid, the world's most economical series production car. VW had revealed the XL1 in February 2013.
The first XL1 to hit the road has an Oryx White Pearl exterior with Titan Black and Pearl Gray interior and belongs to Berlin resident Dr. Christian Malorny.
The car was handed over to him by Thomas Zahn, Director of Sales and Marketing for Volkswagen Passenger Cars in Germany at an event held at the Transparent Factory in Dresden, Germany, where the car is manufactured.

The XL1 is one of the most advanced road-going car ever built by VW, featuring an advanced hybrid diesel engine and a body that has a drag co-efficient of just 0.189 and a low center of gravity of 1,153mm/45.4in.
Use of lightweight carbon fiber reinforced plastic monocoque chassis, covered rear wheels and a sports car like design, all contribute towards fuel savings. The car's 795 kg weight is less than most hatchbacks.
The plug-in hybrid system is made up of a 47 horsepower 0.8-litre twin-cylinder turbo diesel engine and a 20 kW (27 HP) electric motor, powered by a lithium-ion battery. The engine is mated to a 7-speed dual-clutch DSG transmission.
The combined result of all these enables the VW XL1 to deliver an incredible mileage of 111 kpl. Furthermore, this two-seater has an all-electric range of 50 km.
VW is still not revealed how much the XL1 actually costs, but according to reports it costs at least €110,000 (INR 88 lakh).
"The XL1 has inspired me from the beginning and I am very pleased to be driving my own from now on. With its visionary design and high-tech appearance, Volkswagen has dared something new and innovative," Malorny said.
