Volkswagen Touareg And Beetle India Relaunch Likely
Unlike most car makers in India, Volkswagen is not too keen on flooding the market with newer models every year. Neither is the German automaker ready to make compromises in terms of product quality and standards just for the sake of reducing the price.
Nevertheless, VW has to bring out newer model at some point in time to maintain its competitiveness and that will happen in the next couple of years.

Another aspect VW is very particular about is in maintaining its premium car brand image. At no point in time is VW ready to enter the budget car segment, on its own. In contrast, it wants to maintaining premium carmaker image by bringing back a couple of CBU models that are currently no longer offered in India.
In this regard, making a possible return to India would be the Touareg SUV and the iconic Beetle. These models were discontinued due to poor sales, resulting from high prices. This time around VW could consider some level of localization to bring down the asking price as much as possible.
Along with the Touareg and the Beetle, the Tiguan compact SUV is also actively being considered for India.
The other VW model that will return to India will be the all new Passat sedan, built on the B8 platform. The new Passat will be the first to arrive among the new models.
The one segment VW is particularly interested in entering is the compact SUV category. Filling in this gap would be Taigun, the crossover that's based on the extended Up! platform.
In an exclusive interview with Overdrive magazine, VW India Chief representative, Mahesh Kodumudi also went on to hint that the days of the PQ12 platform (on which the Indian Polo and Vento are built) are numbered as the management is very keen to unify its global production facilities, which would finally bring the advanced VW MQB platform to India. And along with it, all the new models that we mentioned earlier.
