Volar-e Electric Race Car Hits 300 km/h

Volar EV
Applus IDIADA, a design and engineering company based in Spain has showcased, for the first time to the world, its electric sports car, Volar-e. The Volar-e made its first public outing at the Circuit de Catalunya circuit in Barcelona, Spain.

The project was commissioned by the European Commission, which funded 50 percent of the project. Applus IDIADA says, it has exceeded the expectations of the EC with the prototype electric racer, which is easily one of the most powerful electric sports cars ever built. Volar-e was built by Applus IDIADA in collaboration with Rimac Automobili.

The Volar-e is powered by four independent electric motors driving the four wheels, producing a combined power output of 1000 HP and peak torque of 1000 Nm!

The lithium ion battery, made up of 10 cells has a capacity of 38 kWh. Applus IDIADA says, the battery can be charged in 15 to 20 minutes.

The makers of the car say it can reach 62 mph (100km/h) in 3.4 seconds from a standstill and the top speed is an impressive 186 mph (300km/h).

Applus IDIADA has not said what the Volar-e's range is, which is sure to be low.

The company won the contract from the EC in late 2012 and has managed to build the car in a record four months.

Volar-e prototype will become the flagship electric car in Europe, which will be used for promoting the capabilities of EVs.
