Toyota FT-86 Open Concept: Images And Details
Images of the Toyota FT-86 Open Concept were leaked on the internet ahead of its official reveal at the Geneva Motor Show. This has prompted the Japanese automaker to make its own official announcement, along with high resolution images and video.
The Toyota FT-86 Open concept is the soft-top version of the Toyota GT86 sports car, also known as Scion FR-S in North America. The FT-86 Open Concept could very well be a production ready car considering it already looks finished. When it does go into production, however, it would pose a direct threat to the vastly popular Mazda MX-5 roadster.

Toyota calls the FT-86 a study model that is being showcased to check the viability of an open top version of the GT86.

The soft top on the FT-86 is electronically controlled and features a glass rear screen. The roof folds away into the space behind the rear seats.

Talking about the rear seats, there emerges another advantage the FT-86 will have over the Mazda MX-5, which is a two seater.

Toyota mentions that the interior and exterior colour coordination for the FT-86 has been done by a designer from the Toyota Boshoku Milan Design studio. The car has been given a white and navy blue contrasting colour scheme, which brings out the sportiness of the car, besides making it attractive.

Also, on the inside yellow-gold stitching adorn the floor mats and seats, which further add to the sporty feel of the car.

Toyota FT-86 Open concept has the same measurements as the GT86 and also uses the same 2.0-liter boxer engine that is coupled to a six-speed transmission driving the rear wheels.

We certainly hope Toyota promotes the FT-86 Open Concept from being a study model to a production model at the very latest.
