Tata Nano With Supercharged & Hybrid Engines Under Development-Rumour

By Ganesh

Tata Motors may have temporarily suspended production of the Nano at its Sanand plant to empty its unsold inventory, but research and development work on the small city is very active. Despite the lost opportunity initially, Tata Motors understands the potential the Nano holds, which is a one-of-a-kind car in the country.

To further enrich the Nano's lineup and to find new ways to make it popular, the company will reportedly launch a new variant of the Nano, powered by a supercharged engine. Currently, the engine doing duty in the Nano is a 624cc, 2-cylinder turbocharged petrol unit that outputs 38 bhp.

The supercharged engine will reportedly be more powerful and will be targeted towards those looking for a small car like the Nano, but with more grunt.

According to Autocar Professional, the Nano with the supercharged engine will be launched during the festive season, not next year, but this year.

Tata Motors is also expected to come out with the AMT equipped Nano Twist this year and another variant with a openable boot, called Nano Twist Active.

Furthermore, the company is even said to be working on a hybrid version of the Nano called the Nano e-Rev. However, the hybrid version of Nano is still said to be a research project only at this point in time, with no plans of a launch.

The Nano e-Rev, along with other electric and hybrid vehicles from Tata Motors would only be launched if the atmosphere for greener cars becomes more friendly in the country, through the introduction of government incentives and such.
