In the not too distant future, ever Tata Motors passenger vehicle will be equipped with the Automated Manual Transmission (AMT). Tata Motors first previewed its AMT technology during the reveal of the Zest compact sedan which was equipped with the upcoming transmission system.

Speaking to the Business Line earlier this week Tata Motors, President and Head-Advanced & Product Engineering Tim Leverton stated that "It [AMT] will go across all our products in due course.

Tata Zest (the Manza successor) compact sedan will be one of the first models from the automaker and most likely the first sedan in India to come with AMT.

The Bolt hatchback (Vista successor) will also get the AMT. But Leverton says, only the diesel variants of the Zest & Bolt will be equipped with AMT.

The petrol engined Nano, on the other hand, will get the AMT, which makes us believe this unit differs from the ones fitted to the Bolt & Zest.

Tata Nano Twist F-Tronic, as Tata calls the Nano with AMT, has the potential to catapult the sales of the small city car. However, Tata has not yet said when the automatic Nano will become available. The automatic Nano is also likely to be exported to countries like Indonesia.
