Maruti Suzuki has revealed its plan to introduce several new and interesting offering in India in the coming years. Their primary focus is to launch its Ciaz sedan for India. However, there were talks of exploring the compact SUV segment, that is booming within the nation.
The compact SUV by Suzuki is being dubbed as Vitara. The Japanese manufacturer confirms its new vehicle will be unveiled to all at 2014 Paris Motor Show. The date has been set for 2nd October, 2014 and will provide more details then.
The Japanese manufacturer has previously used the Vitara name, for its luxury SUV Grand Vitara. However, the new vehicle is smaller and fits in the compact SUV segment. Maruti Suzuki had brought the Grand Vitara to India and did not manage to impress many Indians.
The new Vitara compact SUV is based on Suzuki's iV-4 concept vehicle. They had showcased the model for the first time in 2013. The concept was revealed at Frankfurt Motor Show and had garnered a lot of interest. Suzuki will be globally unveiling the production model in October.
The compact SUV segment is booming in India and every manufacturer wants to have a product in this segment. Currently in India there are Renault's Duster, Ford EcoSport and Nissan Terrano. Hyundai has made its intentions clear and is set to introduce their offering in 2015.
Maruti Suzuki should get the Vitara compact SUV to India as soon as it can. The priority is to launch it for European markets first. However, the vehicle is a global product and could make its way to India. They have not confirmed other markets for its compact SUV, other than Europe.
Suzuki has not revealed the engine that will power its Vitara. The Japanese manufacturer has confirmed more information during the unveil. The Vitara compact SUV will mark its debut at 2014 Paris Motor Show in October.
