Skoda Rapid Diesel With DSG Automatic Transmission For 2015
The new Skoda Rapid for 2015 will be not only more fuel efficient, but will also be more convenient to drive, thanks to introduction of DSG automatic gearbox.
The Rapid has been Skoda's best selling model by far. However, compared to the segment leader Honda City or even its mechanical twin, VW Vento, the Rapid is still a poor performer.
In a bid to make the car more appealing, Skoda will make the Rapid more fuel efficient, make it more convenient to drive and perhaps even bring down the price. This will be achieved by replacing the existing petrol and diesel engines with smaller ones.
At present, the Rapid comes with 1.6-litre, 4-cylinder petrol and diesel engines. These deliver 105 horsepower, and 153 Nm and 250 Nm of torque respectively.

According to Zigwheels, the diesel engine will be replaced by a smaller, more fuel efficient 1.5-litre diesel unit. The petrol engine, on the other hand, could be replaced by the 1.2-litre direct fuel injected engine that also powers the Vento.
Besides the obvious advantage of better fuel economy, engines equal to or smaller than 1500cc will also provide Skoda with tax concessions.
Coming to the transmission, both petrol and diesel models of the 2015 Skoda Rapid could benefit from the advanced DSG dual-clutch automatic transmission. DSG auto gearboxes are already offered in VW Vento.
At present, only the Rapid petrol comes in an automatic variant, equipped with 6-speed torque converter unit. DSG auto gearboxes are not only more refined, but they also contribute towards fuel savings.
2015 Skoda Rapid, which will be launched towards the end of this year, will also come with improvements to the interior, both cosmetic and standard equipment wise.
