Renault Kwid Launch In 2016: Rumour
The Renault Kwid was an eye-catching concept, with an attention grabbing design that was conceived for the Delhi Auto Expo earlier this year. The Kwid was a significant model for Renault because it was the first concept specifically developed for an emerging market like India.
Meant to showcase Renault's commitment towards India, the Kwid previewed a possible crossover model that would thrive in a compact-SUV-loving country like ours.
While at the time Renault was not clear about whether or not a production model based on the Kwid would be made, AutoExpress now claims that such a model will indeed appear and it gives a timeframe of 2016 for its launch.

Shown above is a rendering of what the production Kwid crossover would look like, produced by Autoexpress. It previews a compact SUV with a length of just under 4-metres. This also makes it smaller than the Captur, currently the smallest crossover from Renault.
The report further goes on to claim that the production model will carry over the Kwid name and that it will likely be powered by the 900cc TCe engine from the Twingo.
For India though, the 1.5-litre K9K diesel engine from the Renault Pulse is also likely to make it under the bonnet.

The Kiwd concept was a flamboyant looking crossover, with striking dual tone colour and exaggerated design elements, such as the thick wheels with off-road tyres, bird's nest inspired futuristic interior and gull wing doors. The concept even came with a flying companion - a remotely operated drone.
The production car will obviously be significantly toned down, with a more conservative design. Renault could provide the car with a few personalization options such as contrasting roof and it likely to continue to have a raised body, along with under body skid plates.
Is 2016 too long a delay for Renault to bring its EcoSport rival to India?
