Renault Alpine Sports Car To Debut In 2016
First announced in 2012, a partnership between the French automaker Renault and British sports car company Caterham was supposed to revive Renault's Alpine performance brand.
The partnership seemed committed with the launch of the first concept model, the Renault Alpine A110-50. Caterham was also supposed to build its own version of the Alpine A110-50.
Fast forward to 2014 and the Anglo-French alliance has fallen apart. The final, official announcement was made earlier this week. Fortunately, the Alpine project has not been shelved.

While the partnership was terminated, Renault bought Caterham's entire stake in the project and has announced that it bring the Alpine project to a conclusion by 2016 with the launch of a production sports car.
The Alpine performance car will be made at the company's Dieppe (Alpine's original headquarters) manufacturing facility in northern France and work is already on to equip the facility to produce the car. Renault is said to have completed most of the design specification and interior design work.

The Renault Alpine A110-50 concept car's design was inspired by the Renault Alpine A110 Berlinette, a model that was produced between 1961 and 1977. The concept car is powered by a 3.5-liter, 4-cylinder turbo V6 engine capable of delivering 400 horsepower and 420 Nm of torque.
Hopefully, the production version will be just as unique and futuristically sporty looking as the concept car.
