Porsche Cayman GTS & Boxster GTS Revealed

By Ganesh

The ‘GTS' badge is worn by the most hardcore, high performance Porsche cars and the Stuttgart automaker has now built the Cayman and the Boxster worthy of wearing this badge.

Standing for Gran Turismo Sport, GTS variants sit above the regular sporty ‘S' variant. As such, they get additional electronics, extra features, styling changes and not to mention more performance.

Both the Porsche GTS and Cayman GTS can be differentiated from regular models by the dark surround Bi-xenon headlights, featuring Porsche Dynamic Light System, new front bumper with air splitter, new rear bumper with centrally mounted dual sport exhaust with black tips, silky black gloss lettering and 20 inch matte black wheels.

Last, but not the least, the cabins of the GTS models are fitted with sports seats, leather trims and plenty of Alcantara.

The 3.4 liter flat-six engines in the Cayman GTS and the Boxster GTS are from the ‘S' variants. However, they have been tuned to produce 15 HP more power and 9.5 Nm more torque. The final numbers are then 340HP and 380Nm for the Cayman GTS and 330HP and 370Nm for the Boxster GTS.

Six speed manual transmission is offered as standard, with the Porsche PDK dual-clutch transmission being offered as option.

What's standard with both cars are Porsche Sport Chrono package and Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM).

Besides allowing the driver to manually tune throttle response, the Sport Chrono package provides dynamic engine mounts that automatically stiffen to prevent the mass of the engine from affecting the driving characteristics of the car during acceleration and other high speed maneuvers.

PASM, on the other hand, allows fine tuning of suspension and dampers. You could further opt for a sports chassis that will lower the car's ride height by 20 millimeters.

Equipped with the automatic transmission the Cayman GTS can accelerate to 96 km/h in 4.4 seconds. The Boxster GTS does the same in 4.4 seconds. Top speed is 284 km/h and 280 km/h respectively for the Cayman GTS and Boxster GTS with the manual transmission.

Porsche Boxster GTS is priced at €69,949 and €73,757 for the Cayman GTS in Germany.
