Datsun Global Premiere To Be Held In India In July

The unveiling will take place in New Delhi's Kingdom of Dreams on July 15th and Renault-Nissan CEO, Carlos Ghosn is expected to unveil the first new Datsun model. The hatchback will be the first new Datsun model in more than 32 years.
The new hatchback is expected to be launched sometime during mid-2014 and besides India it will make its way to other emerging markets such as Indonesia, South Africa and Russia. In India the car will be placed in the sub 4 lakh segment. A category which is currently led by Hyundai i10.
The Datsun brand's main differentiator will be its superior styling, which is expected to be on par with premium hatchbacks. The Datsun signature styling will be the hexagonal front grille.
The five door hatchback, which is internally referred to as K2, is expected to be launched with the same 1.2 litre, three-cylinder petrol engine that is seen in the Nissan Micra. A diesel engine will not be provided, at least initially. Besides premium styling, the Datsun hatchback will also reportedly offer best in class interior space and fuel economy.
AutocarIndia speculates Datsun cars will be make use of Nissan's existing dealer network, but with a dedicated area within Nissan's showrooms. In smaller towns where there are no Nissan showrooms, dedicated Datsun showrooms will be opened.
Nissan expects to sell 1,50,000 to 2,00,000 units of the first Datsun hatchback, which in all probability, will be sold for a starting price not exceeding 3.5 lakhs.
