Narendra Modi Opts For BMW 7 Series Over Mahindra Scorpio
It's finally BMW 760Li High Security edition that will be PM Modi's official car and not his trusted Mahindra Scorpio.
Mahindra Scorpio has long been part of the PM's political carrier, right up to the point when he was sworn in. He was driven to the swearing-in ceremony in his high security Mahindra Scorpio.
There has been lot of interest surrounding the matter, which was further fueled by Anand Mahindra's letter to Narendra Modi, apparently requesting him to continue using the Scorpio as the official PM's transport.

It was turning into a matter of choosing a made-in-India car from an Indian brand over a German vehicle.
At the end of the day, however, it is the Special Protection Group (SPG), tasked with providing close quarters security cover to the PM and his close relatives, that takes a call on the matter, which chose the BMW flagship.
Clearly, the SPG feels the Scorpio and Mahindra still have a long way go before they can quality for the high-profile task.

Coming to the BMW 760Li High Security edition limousine, it is considered to be one of the best armoured car in the world, used by VVIPs world around.
While the High Security edition looks like a regular BMW 760Li from the outside, it is nothing like the standard car and is customised as per client specification. The exact specifications for the Indian Prime Minister's car is provided by the SPG and is classified.
In general, a BMW 7 Series High Security edition comes equipped with ballistic body armour, capable of withstanding RPG and assault rifle rounds, bullet proof windows and run-flat tyres.
Their fuel tanks are bullet proof and explosion resistant, and in case of a puncture, it can seal itself.
The interior can also be sealed to isolate it from the outside atmosphere, to protect occupants in the event of a gas attack.
These cars can also be outfitted with all sorts of radio and signal jammers, and satellite based communication equipments, among a wide variety of other electronic security equipments.
The Prime Minister's motorcade generally consists of identical looking dummy 7 Series as an additional security measure.
