Mercedes-Benz Hydrogen Fuel Cell SUV Coming In 2017
Hydrogen fuel cell technology remains the most promising alternative means of powering vehicles that's cleaner than plug-in hybrids and more efficient fossil fuel.
However, lack of infrastructure is currently one of the main factor that's inhibiting the growth of mainstream hydrogen fuel cell powered vehicles and slowing their development.

That's still no reason for not making an effort to develop more advanced and more efficient hydrogen fuel cell cars. That's exactly what car makers such as Honda, Nissan and Mercedes-benz are doing because when the infrastructure does indeed become well developed the technology should be sufficiently advanced to make mass production of these cars possible.
In anticipation and preparation of that day Mercedes-Benz has in the past developed hydrogen fuel cell cars in limited numbers. Namely, their F-Cell versions of the C-Class and B-Class hatchbacks in 2010.

Both these cars were developed in limited numbers and deployed in selected regions on a trial basis. The outcome was very encouraging and the cars performed well, accomplishing what they had set out to do.

Motoring.com.au has now learn't something about the automaker's next hydrogen fuel cell vehicle. Mercedes-Benz head of sales and marketing, Ola Kallenius has revealed that the next generation vehicle will arrive sometime during 2017.

Also, unlike the earlier models this one would be an SUV. Having said that, the next-gen hydrogen fuel cell SUV will be as close to becoming a production model as the B-Class & C-Class F-Cell cars.
Like the previous generation vehicles the F-Cell SUV will be a limited production model that will be released on a trial basis.
"For the long-term, it is a very attractive propulsion method [that] we will keep on investing in, and then we'll see how quickly that shift happens. It's hard to tell at this stage what the dynamics of that [shift] will be," Kallenius said.
