Mercedes Benz GLA Class To Be Unveiled In Frankfurt; Details & Images
Following the leaked images Mercedes Benz has to come out with the announcement about the unveiling of the GLA Class crossover at the Frankfurt Auto Show in September. This was accompanied with images, a video and details about the new car.
Except for the powertrain, the remaining details were more or less evident from the leaked images. The GLA Class crossover, Mercedes's latest product offering in the compact car segment, is a beefed up A Class, which will compete for space with Volvo V40 Cross Country, Audi Q3 and BMW X1.
Mercedes GLA Class measures 173.9 inches long, 71 inches wide and 58.8 high, measurements which are slightly larger than the A Class. Though the wheelbase length has not been mentioned it is likely to be the same as the A Class, due to the use of a common platform.
The GLA Class variant variant that will go on sale first will be the 2015 GLA250 4MATIC all-wheel drive variant, which features fully variable torque distribution.
This variant will come with a four cylinder, direct-injected, 2.0 liter turbocharged engine delivering 208 HP and 258 ft-lb of torque.
The next-gen 4MATIC permanent all-wheel drive system will work in conjunction with a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission.
Mercedes GLA Class will be capable of speeds of up to 233 km/h. 0-100 km/h time is said to be reached in 6.5 seconds.
Skids plates, side panel with depressions shaped like an excavator's teeth, standard chrome roof rails add to GLA Class's off-road character.
Standard chrome rails can be replaced with high-gloss black ones. Similarly, the standard 18-inch alloy wheels can be upgraded with optional 19 inch wheels.
While the GLA250 4MATIC goes on sale next year, a front wheel drive variant will also be made available in 2015. There is no word on the GLA45 AMG yet.
