Mercedes-Benz Concept Coupe At Beijing Auto Show 2014
The latest fad of combining the design of a coupe and an SUV among automakers continues with the new Mercedes-Benz Concept Coupe which made its public debut at the Beijing Auto Show. The Concept Coupe clearly falls into the same segment as the BMW X6 and is expected to spawn a production Mercedes under the ML-Class that will come in 2015.
Previewed for the first time during Daimler's Annual Shareholder's Meeting in Berlin earlier this month, the Concept Coupe was described as a sportily styled coupé study with the added value of an SUV.

The Concept Coupe is characterized by the broad mesh grille with the prominent single bar, three-pointed star logo adorning the center. The lower air intakes and bumper are equally chunky and oversized to accentuate the SUV side of the design.
The LED headlights are not overly stylish and look production-ready. The hood has clearly defined creases running up from the grille.

The rear of the Concept gets a more coupe-like sloping roof line, with gradually narrowing windows. The back side is the exact opposite of the front, with very few bold design elements. Things are smoother here, defined by narrow tail lamp that runs all from side-to-side and a unique chrome bumper.
The Coupe Concept measures 4.9 metres long, 1.7 metres high and 2 metres wide, while the large 22-inch wheels are housed in extra wide arches.

A twin-turbocharged, 3.0-litre V6 engine with 333 horsepower and 480 Nm of torque, mated to the Mercede-Benz 9G-Tronic nine-speed automatic transmission powers the Concept Coupe.
"The Concept Coupé SUV stands out thanks to its extreme proportions and in doing so interprets our hallmark Mercedes coupé design idiom perfectly. With its superior sportiness it conveys a sense of modern luxury and aesthetic aspirations of sensual clarity," Gorden Wagener, Head of Design at Mercedes-Benz commented.
