Maruti Suzuki Celerio Production To Be Doubled To Meet Demand
Maruti Celerio, which offer's India's first ever automated manual transmission (AMT), has been in particularly high demand in the country ever since its launch last month.
Demand for an automatic variant which is outstriping manual variant sales is something that's never been seen before in India. In fact, the popularity of Celerio has far exceeded Maruti's initial estimates.

Naturally, this has not gone unnoticed by the automaker which now wants to cash in on it before demand goes sour. Due to this the automaker has now reportedly decided to increase production from the current 5,000 units to 10,000 units per month.
Doubling production of any model is not a simple matter as it is affected by various factors. Fortunately, Maruti has the capacity to accommodate the additional Celerio hatchbacks since it is discontinuing the Ritz and the A-Star.
The other hurdle is components supply, for which it has to depend on third party vendors. According to ET Now, Maruti has already requested their partners to provide additional components.
If vendors are ready and capable of manufacturing twice the amount of components, then production capacity at Celerio facilities will be doubled to 10,000 units per month from July onwards.
Currently, in some places waiting period of Maruti Celerio is as high as 6 months for the top-end AMT variant. Doubling production will more than halve booking periods and improve sales significantly.
Maruti Celerio, which is India's first car with AMT, would soon be joined by other cars from Tata motors and Mahindra. If the demand for AMT are any indication we could soon be seeing the start of a new trend of automatic cars dominating Indian roads.
