Mahindra XUV500 Recalled For Airbag Software Upgrade
India's leading manufacturer and seller of utility vehicles has issued a recall of its product. Mahindra and Mahindra will be recalling its premium SUV the XUV500. The automobile manufacturer will be upgrading the software for airbags provided in their vehicle.
It is unknown how many of the XUV500 are affected by this recall. Mahindra has issued recall only for the models that have been manufactured before July, 2014. As of now there seems to be a glitch in the software for the side curtain airbags.
Mahindra has announced that this upgrade will be free of cost to owners of XUV500. There is no need to change any part of the vehicle and is limited only to a software upgrade. The manufacturer will contact affected customers individually to upgrade the software.
Customers who would like to check for themselves if their vehicle is affected by this issue, can head to Mahindra's Service Action section. You can also click on the following link to see if your XUV500 is part of the software recall.
In our opinion not many of Mahindra XUV500 vehicles will be affected by this recall, as only a single model is offered with side curtain airbags. During 2014, the Indian manufacturer had recalled several of its SUV models due to a faulty vacuum pump for their engine.
The XUV500 by Mahindra is offered in four trim options W4, W6, W8 and W8 AWD. All models share the same 2179cc diesel mill, which generates 140 bhp and 330 Nm of peak torque output. The manufacturer claims a fuel economy of 15.1 kpl approved by ARAI. The base variant costs INR 11,19,000 to INR 15,05,000 ex-showroom, Delhi.
