Mahindra kicked off the new strategic partnership with the launch of Reva e2o electric small car in Thimphu. This announcement comes just a few days after a similar deal was signed by Nissan with Thimphu for the introduction of LEAF EVs.

Prime minister of Bhutan, Tshering Tobgay and Dr Pawan Goenka, executive director & president, Automotive & Farm Equipment Sectors, Mahindra & Mahindra and chairman, Mahindra Reva Electric Vehicles, were present during the launch.

The introduction of Reva e2o in Bhutan is part of a bigger picture that will involve eventual introduction of several other Mahindra electric vehicle models including the Verito, Maxximo and even buses.

Mahindra believes if the Bhutan implements the proposal submitted by the automaker as many 8000 EVs could be seen in the hilly country in the next three years.

The task of making Bhutan an entirely electric vehicle run country will be jointly handled by the Mahindra & the government, where the task of setting up necessary charging infrastructure will be taken care of by Thimphu. Over 3,500 charging stations are expected to be setup.

Mahindra believes it will have an edge over its competition (Nissan) because of its wide portfolio of EVs as well as its physical location. Reva e2o will be used serve both as private & government vehicle in Bhutan.
