Mahindra Labour Trouble At Tractor Production Facility
After Toyota Kirloskar and Bajaj Auto, the latest auto manufacturer to face labour issue at its manufacturing facility is Mahindra & Mahindra. The company, which is the largest producer of tractors in the country, has reported that it is facing a limited labour strike.
Some employees are allegedly not reporting to work in a planned manner at its tractor manufacturing plant at Mohali, Punjab. However, it does not seem to be like a full fledged labor union strike.
The motive behind the behaviour is not known and neither have any demands been clearly put forward.
In a statement released by Mahindra it says, "Their demands are unjustified and matter is in conciliation with the Labour Commissioner's Office. The management is reasonably sure that better sense will prevail with this section of employees and the matter will be resolved amicably."
Mahindra has been fortunate enough not to face any loss in production as enough employees are working on the production line to ensure daily manufacturing targets are met.
Worker strikes at factories are on the rise lately and one reason that's said to be the cause is the slump in the automotive segment that has resulted in layoffs and not to mention, inflation.
Since 2013, the automotive sector has seen about five instances of labour unrest at various companies and this trend is likely to continue if a permanent solution is not found.
