Mahindra Confirms Electric Verito, Maxximo & Gio
Mahindra had confirmed during the launch event of e2o in New Delhi that electric sedans was something the company was considering and would launch based on user response. It now looks like an electric sedan from Mahindra's stable could be launched sooner than anyone expected.
M&M President, Automotive and Farm Equipment Sectors, Pawan Goenka has now stated that the a prototype model of the an electric version of the Verito is being developed. But that's not all. He also went on to say that the electric version of Maxximo and Gio commercial vehicles will also be launched soon. In fact, 50 electric Maxximo mini trucks have already been developed and will be launched based on demand.

Speaking about the electric Verito's specs he said it would be powered by a Reva electric powertrain that would generate 29 kW (38.9bhp). The electric sedan would have a range of 100km and would take six hours to fully charge. Also, a quick charge feature will fill most of the battery in an hour.
"We will be using the electric vehicle technology to some of our existing products. We are almost ready with the electric Gio and Maxximo, while we have also developed a prototype for the electric Verito," Pawan Goenka said. "The prototype is ready. Verito is a heavier car than the e2o. There has to be adjustment and optimisation of the technology, and we will be ready to launch it in a year's time." He also stated that the company had invested an amount of INR 150 crores towards development of future electric vehicles.
The e2o might not have had a warm reception in its home country, but in the near future, demand is expected to come from international market, particularly Northern European countries such as Scandinavia, which has already shown interest.
