Kerala Get's It's Second Women Only 'She Taxi' Service In Kochi
The Kerala government, on Wednesday, inaugurated the second women-only taxi service in the state in Kochi. The only one of its kind in the county, the ‘She-Taxi' service is already operational in Thiruvananthapuram since November last year.
The She-Taxi service was inaugurated by Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy, which offers privacy and safety to female passengers. The project is also supported by the Kerala government's Department of Social Justice and is part of its ‘The Gender Park' initiative.
Actress Manju Warrier is its goodwill ambassador.
Kochi will have a fleet of 10 She-Taxis initially, which will later be expanded. Thiruvananthapuram started out with five cabs last year. Kozhikode will be the third city get She-Taxi service.
The Kerala government plans to soon have 250 She-Taxies across the state in all major cities.
She-Taxi cabs are supplied by Maruti Suzuki and can be differentiated by their pink and white exterior. These cabs are also equipped with features such as GPS, LCD systems, emergency alert switches for drivers and passengers, and safety alert mobile application. The fleet is mostly made up of Swift DZire models, along with a few Ertiga MPVs.
