Hyundai Xcent Launch Date Officially Announced
Hyundai Xcent will be launched on March 12. Hyundai's first compact sedan, the Xcent, was first previewed right before the start Auto Expo last month and was later displayed at the expo for the public to get a visual taste of it.
The Xcent is based on the Hyundai's Grand i10 hatchback, which means it has the same dimension, including the wheelbase. Even in terms of how the Xcent looks it cannot be differentiated from its hatchback sibling. The only thing that differs is the added boot, which increases the overall length without exceeding the 4 meter barrier, to avail tax benefits.
The good part is, despite the added boot the Xcent does not look awkward and it would seem the Grand i10 was designed keeping in mind a future compact sedan. And probably that is the case.
Considering the Grand i10 was a multiple ‘Car of the Year' award winner last year the Xcent should perform equally well in its respective segment and should give Honda Amaze stiff competition.
A look inside the cabin reveals that nothing has changed in here either. The same dash and instrument cluster and seats as the grand i10 can be found in the Xcent, which is not at all bad. The one added convenience rear passengers will get is a fold-down armrest with cup holders.
Top end variants would get a few extra equipments & amenities such as automatic climate control and added safety features. Hopefully, Hyundai will provide the automatic variant of the Xcent with ABS, which is unfortunately missed in the grand i10.
Hyundai Xcent will be powered by the same 1.2 litre petrol and 1.1 liter diesel engines as the Grand i10. The petrol engine is rated at 81 bhp at 6000 rpm and 114 Nm torque at 4000 rpm, while the diesel provides 70 bhp at 4000 rpm and 160 Nm max torque at 1500 rpm. Transmission options include a five speed manual and a four speed auto gearbox.
