The Intrado is an aggressive looking concept that's been designed keeping in mind "younger buyers with active, spontaneous and opportunistic lifestyles. They are sceptical about the car industry as it is, but respond to objects they associate with pure, functional beauty rather than decorative form," explains Hyundai's European design chief Thomas Burkle.

Designed and engineered at Hyundai's European Technical center in Germany, the Intrado Concept gets its name from the underside of an aircraft's wing that responsible for generating lift.

Hyundai also says the design of the Intrado has been influenced by aircraft design by the way of using lightweight construction materials and getting rid of unnecessary parts.

As a result, the Intrado concept features a pillar less body and frameless coach doors. The concept uses carbon fibre-reinforced plastic hoops that are interconnected to form a strong monocoque chassis that sits under the steel frame. This design is said to be 70 per cent lighter than a steel structure and more rigid as well.

The Intrado concept uses a next-gen hydrogen fuel cell drivetrain that's lighter and smaller than the one that powers the production Hyundai ix35. Hyundai has not released performance info about the new drivetrain, but we do know that a 36 kWh lithium battery is used to store regenerated energy. The hydrogen, meanwhile, is located in high-pressure tanks under the back seat, extending up to the boot floor.
