Honda Civic Type-R Enthusiasts Sign Petition To Get It To The U.S

By Ganesh

As you might be already aware, Honda debuted a new Type-R car at the Geneva Motor Show 2014 this month. As Honda Type-R cars go the Civic Type-R is an incredible looking machine that's based on the championship winning Civic World Touring Car Championship race car.

Honda Civic Type-R is an extremely aggressive and sporty looking hot hatch fitted with outrageous aerodynamic aids and a 280+ HP, 2.0 liter VTEC Turbo engine. The car is so potent that its expected to become the fastest production front wheel driven hatchback to lap the Nurburgring when Honda takes it there soon.

Sadly for American enthusiasts the Civic Type-R will not be sold stateside, which has left many extremely disappointed. One such enthusiasts decided to take matter into own hands and has started a Change.org petition to coax Honda into bringing the hot hatch to the United States.

The petition page on the website reads, "Honda enthusiasts demand that the discrimination against our market stops right here. There is no excuse anymore. If other countries can enjoy the best Honda has to offer, we should be able to enjoy the same rights."

The petition, at the time of this writing, had been signed by 9,009 people, which was enough to get a response from Honda North America public relations. The statement reads: "Thanks for sending the link. It's great to see so much enthusiasm for our global products! I can't promise anything, but we'll take your support of Type-R into account. It is a fantastic car."

Despite the overwhelming enthusiasm chances of Honda bring the Civic Type-R to the U.S is low. That's because the process of homologating for the States requires significant financial investment from Honda and for it to make financial sense the company would have to sell large numbers of the car which is difficult in case of a car like the Civic Type-R.
