Ford Everest Concept, The Next Gen Endeavour, Revealed In Bangkok

By Ganesh

Ford Everest Concept (the next generation Ford Endeavour), first revealed in August last year, has made its public debut at the 2014 Bangkok International Motor Show, in Thailand, in a "Sunset Flare" orange colour.

Ford is calling this the SUV's ASEAN debut, which means it will come to India as the production 2015 Ford Endeavour. Naturally, the Everest Concept features significant design changes compared to the current Endeavour.

The front portion of the Everest is dominated by an inverted trapezoidal grille. While shaped like the grille on the EcoSport, this one is larger and heavily chromed.

Growing out of edges of the grille are headlights with a swept back design.

The other bold design feature of the Everest concept is the silver coloured skid plate that extends to form the fog lamp housing.

Towards the rear, the tail lamps are connected by a long chrome strip bearing the "Everest" lettering. The lower bumper is fitted with a skid plate that looks exactly like the one on the front, except for empty fog lamp housing.

Towards the side you'll notice the chrome mirror capping and a faux air vent behind the wheel arches, also in chrome. The wheels are chunky and big, shod in thick off-road tyres.

The Everest concept definitely looks powerful and masculine. We would even go to the extent of calling this the best in its segment (considering the production version carries the look of the concept) that's made up of the Toyota Fortuner, Chevrolet Captiva and Mitsubishi Pajero Sport in India.

Ford Everest sticks to its roots and is built on a truck's ladder frame chassis. This seven seater is expected to be powered by a 2.2 liter and 3.0 liter diesel engines, with the option of manual and automatic transmissions.

"The Ford Everest Concept shows the bold new direction that we envision for a mid-size, seven-seat SUV that has been designed for ASEAN and global markets," said Matt Bradley, president of Ford ASEAN. He also revealed that the production Everest, based on this concept, will be built in Rayong, Thailand, alongside the Ranger.

For India, Ford is likely to assembly it from CKD kits imported from Thailand, which should allow it to be priced competitively.
