Ford EcoSport India Launch To Be Held In March?
[Update]: Tursn out, the March 4th launch date is not for the Ford EcoSport, but for a special edition, Figo Celebration Edition, which Ford will launch on the occassion of Figo completing three successful years in India.
Ford, which is expected to come out with the highly anticipated EcoSport compact SUV in India during the first quarter of the year, has not yet given a specific date. But TopGear India seems to have some knowledge about the same.
According to them, Ford will launch the EcoSport model on March 4th. The report says, Ford was waiting for the Union budget to be announced so that it could finalize the pricing for the EcoSport. Ford is looking to price their new compact SUV aggressively to ensure buyers choose it over models from Ford's competitors.
The EcoSport petrol base model will be priced somewhere between INR 5.99 lakhs and INR 6.25 lakhs, before tax, while the base diesel model will have a price tag in the range of INR 6.99 lakhs to INR 7.25 lakhs.
Ford EcoSport will be offered with three engine choices, the 1.5L petrol engine delivering 110 HP, the 1.5L diesel engine, delivering 95 HP and the 1.0L EcoBoost engine, delivering 120 HP. The EcoBoost engine, which promises high fuel efficiency of 17 kmpl, along with relatively good performance, will cost more than the base petrol and diesel variants. However, Ford will try to cap the price of the highest variant EcoBoost at INR 10 lakhs.
If Ford indeed launches EcoSport within the expected price range then it will emerge as the model to look out for this year. The biggest blow will be to Renault Duster, which falls under the same category as the EcoSport, but has a starting price exceeding INR 7 lakhs. EcoBoost also has the potential to adversely affect sales of the upcoming Honda Amaze, VW Polo, Hyundai i20 and possibly even the high end variant of Suzuki Swift.
