Ford EcoSport To Be Manufactured Round-The-Clock In India
Ford's marketing for the EcoSport compact SUV proved effective when the automaker started receiving extremely positive response from buyers. Unfortunately, Ford was not ready to handle the pressure and we all know what ensued.

Waiting periods for the EcoSport went as high as 1 year, prices were increased twice which also affected those who had already booked the car at the original launch price and in the end bookings were stopped after it received orders for 60,000 units. Until mid January the company had only delivered about half of those cars.
The solution? Ford will soon begin round-the-clock production of the EcoSport in its Chennai manufacturing facility.

Ford's Chennai facility caters not only to domestic market but also to European and Japanese buyers, which meant the existing single shift with 350 units production a day was just not enough to cater to demand.

Starting from the middle of this year Ford will introduce three shifts, with 24X7 production, for the first time in the company's history in India. The plan is to increase annual production to 1,60,000 units in 2014 and then take it to 2,00,000 units.

Ford will ramp up production of EcoSport from 350 units per day to 450 units per day by June. Towards the end of this year that number will be taken up to 750 to 850 units a day.

However, not everything is under Ford's control as increasing production is highly dependent on various factors, a major one being component suppliers. If Ford is able to bring everything together and if vendors supply components on time in the coming months more EcoSport SUVs will be seen on our roads pretty soon.
