Electric Cars Must Make Engine Noise By 2019 In In Europe
As the number of electric cars on the road are going up the possibility of accidents occurring due to these relatively silent cars is also increasing. A simple solution to this problem is to equip cars with sound symposers that emit sound similar to engines.
In the United States it is already compulsory for all electric cars to make sound while moving at speeds slower than 28 km/h. Soon, such a rule will also be implemented across Europe, as ruled by the European Union.

The new rule in Europe will come into effect in 2019, by which time all electric cars will be required to come with sound symposers. At present, a few electric cars such as the Renault Zeo EV and Nissan Leaf already produce artificial sound to warn other motorists and pedestrians about their presence. Other EVs offer it as an optional add-on.
Also, in the Leaf, the driver has the ability to turn off the sound if he or she chooses. Something that will not be allowed once the new rule comes into effect.
Electric vehicles with sound symposers can reduce the instances of accidents, particularly in the case of blind and partially deaf people.
