Chris Harris On The 1957 Citroen 2CV

By Ganesh

The Citroen 2CV could be called France's answer to the VW Beetle. One of the most iconic cars ever built by Citroen, the 2CV came at a time when France was in a poor economical state post World War II. The car was thus designed to be inexpensive, easy to maintain, reliable and fuel-efficient.

The excellent engineering, however, was not complemented by the car's design, but that was not an issue at all because its primary purpose was to get the thousands of French farmers to move from using carts to cars, which it succeeded it doing.

Manufactured between 1948 and 1990, the Citroen 2CV went on to become one of the most successful cars sold by the company, with 3,872,583 units produced.

Throughout its life the 2CV has received praise from all quarters, including prestigious car magazines. Now, 24 years after production ended, Chris Harris calls this the world's best car. Here is why.
