In most western countries cars are required to have provision for Child Restraint Systems and making them compulsory in India would reduce the number of casualties, which is currently among the highest in the world.

Child Restraint Systems are generally hard backed removable seats which can be placed on regular seats. These seats vary in size and weight capacity and can be purchased by parents to fit their child.

Unlike regular seat belts Child Restraint Systems usually provide five point harness, much like race car harnesses to secure the children in case of a crash.

Car sold in India will be required to have ISOFIX slots/mounting points for at least one seat from October 1st. These are standard slots that allow Child Restraint Systems to be connected to the car's seat.

Manufacturers are likely to provide ISOFIX mounting points on the rear seats as front seats are considered less safe for children due to airbags, which could prove dangerous to children.
