Caterham Seven Kamui Kobayashi Edition Heads To Japan

Even as the "up for sale" rumours about Caterham were going around, the British based sports car maker was announcing a special, limited edition version of its Seven open-wheeled track car.

It is called the Seven Kamui Kobayashi Edition, after their Japanese Formula 1 driver and is also specifically meant for Japan, with production limited to 10 units.

The special edition Seven has been designed based on inputs from Kobayashi and mostly differs from the the standard car visually. But it does look really good.

Caterham Seven Kamui Kobayashi Edition

The limited edition Seven is based on the Seven 250R and is thus powered by its 1.6-litre Ford Sigma engine, rated at 125 bhp.

The open wheeled car can accelerate to 100 km/h in 5.9 seconds and can reach a top speed of 196 km/h. While it's not the quickest or the fastest, it is still an extremely fun car to drive due to its lightness.

The car is mostly painted in high-gloss black, with matt black stripes. This is matched by green coloured body parts, including the wheel covers, front wind protector (which is a bespoke deep green) and interior.

The car sits on 13-inch diamond cut alloy wheels, while all 10 cars wear a ‘10' badge on the nose. The single exhaust gets a polished chrome finish. There's also a single-sided rollover hoop fixed to the rear bulkhead.

The Caterham Seven Kamui Kobayashi Edition is a single seater, with the passenger side covered with an aluminum tonneau cover.

The carbon fiber dashboard also gets the a green lacquer, while the gauges get the ‘Kamui' wording. The dashboard is also signed by Kobayashi. The green touch also appears on the gear knob, with the Kamui word marking, along with an anodised green key.

The sport seat is also carbon fiber and features the same contrasting green stitching, a Kamui logo on the headrest and a green Takata-branded 4-point harness.

Caterham Seven Kamui Kobayashi Edition is priced at ¥6,000,000 in Japan, including taxes, which is about $58,900 or £35,000 or INR 34.72 lakh.
