BMW i8 To Launch In India On 18th February, 2015
BMW India will be launching its much awaited hybrid sports car the i8 on 18th of February, 2015. The German manufacturer was supposed to launch the i8 at the end of 2014, however, it was delayed due to certain circumstances.
The German engineers will provide its i8 hybrid sports car with a frugal 1.5-litre, turbocharged three-cylinder engine. It produces 228 horsepower, along with 319.9 Nm of peak torque output. This performance has to be credited to an integral electric motor contribution.
BMW will also provide an AC permanent-magnet synchronous electric motor. It will generate 129 horsepower, along with 249.4 Nm of peak torque output. The hybrid sports car boasts of a total 357 horsepower and 569.44 Nm of torque. Top speed of the vehicle has been restricted to 249 km/h.
The electric motor is fitted to the front wheels and gets a 2-speed automatic gearbox. For the rear wheels BMW has provided their rear mounted gasoline engine. This engine has a 6-speed automatic gearbox with manual shifting mode.
BMW i8 will be offered in India through the Completely Built Unit(CBU) route. The hybrid sports car will be priced at approximately INR 2,00,00,000 ex-showroom. The demand for this hybrid sports car is very high, thus, it will be available in India in limited numbers.
The German manufacturer had first showcased its i8 in India, during the 2014 Auto Expo. The electric sports car had garnered a lot of attention during the motor show. BMW has launched its i8 in several markets and it will be finally coming to India on the 18th of February, 2015.
