Ariel Atom Police Car In The U.K To Promote Motorcycle Safety!

By Ganesh

The Dubai police force may have a lot of expensive cars, but one car they do not have is the Ariel Atom. Easily the most ridiculous police car in the world, more so than the former's Bugatti Veyron.

The United Kingdom's Avon and Somerset Constabulary (police department) was recently gifted an Ariel Atom 3.5R, the latest version of the bare-bones sports car by the company, which is located in the same location.

Naturally, this car won't be used in any actual high-speed chases. Instead, it has been enrolled into the force to promote safe driving among motorcyclists in the U.K.

The Ariel Atom 3.5R has been inducted into the police force in time for the Safer Rider campaign, which aims to promote safer riding among motorcyclists in the U.K.

Being a police car, this Ariel Atom 3.5R (Ariel Atom PL) wears the department's bright yellow and blue livery and the customary light bar, which is mounted on top of the air intake.

Ariel Atom director Simon Saunders said, "Our business is about going fast, very fast, but there is a time and a place. The Atom is designed to be driven to a race track, where you can drive to your limits in safety and in a professional environment designed for the purpose. The road really isn't the place to explore your or your vehicle's limits.

"We're just about to launch an all new Ariel motorcycle and we want our bikes and customers to be as safe as they possibly can be as well, so this message is important to us. There's always one certain loser in a motorcycle collision and that's the motorcyclist."

Ah! Now it all makes sense.

Ariel Atom 3.5R is powered by a 3.5-litre four V8 engine developing 350 bhp and weighs just 612 kg. A Sadev six-speed sequential gearbox connected to an adjustable limited slip differential and Öhlins TTX suspensions are a few other notable vitals. The car can accelerate to 100 km/h in 2.6 seconds and to 100 mph (160km/h) in just 6 seconds.

"Motorcyclists make up just 1 per cent of total road traffic but account for nearly 20 per cent of all road user deaths. They are roughly 35 times more likely to be killed in a road traffic collision than someone in a car and we really want to see these numbers reduced," says Sergeant Andy Parsons who is heading the Safer Rider campaign.
