Renault Duster 4X4 & Nissan Terrano All-Wheel Drive Launch In 2014
All wheel drive is one of the most desired feature among SUV buyers. Yet, most compact SUV manufacturers these days shy away from offering 4X4 variants of their products. Renault Duster, Nissan Terrano and Ford EcoSport are all examples of these.
All wheel drive variants are not only more expensive but are also heavier, bringing down their fuel economy. Thus reducing demand to an niche group of buyers which does not make introducing this variant economically viable for the manufacturer.

However, in light of growing demand and to bring about differentiation and to get new customers the Renault Nissan Alliance is said to have decided in favour launching four wheel drive variants of their compact SUVs, the Duster & Terrano, reports Zigwheels.
Unnamed company executives are said to have revealed that Renault Duster & Nissan Terrano 4X4 variants will be launched in the second half of this year, with the Duster coming out first during August-September. Unfortunately, the 4X4s will not be based on the facelifted version, which will only arrive in 2015.

The all-wheel drive variants of both compact SUVs will be launched only with the top of the line Duster RxZ and Terrano XV diesel trims.
While front wheel drive Duster RxZ and Terrano XV diesel come for INR 12.67 lakhs and INR 12.78 lakhs (ex-showroom Mumbai) respectively, the 4X4 version of the same variants will be offered at a premium of about Rs 75,000 to INR 1 lakhs.
