Here is the list of best-selling cars in the world in the first half of 2016.

The Chevrolet Silverado slots itself in the tenth spot in the ranking, it is a full-size/heavy duty pickup truck which has been production from 1998.

Chevrolet sold 307,845 units of the Silverado in the first half of 2016 and has moved from the 11th spot to the top 10.

Winning many awards for its capabilities, the Chevrolet Silverado is popular among the pickup truck enthusiasts.

Doing the duty for the Chevrolet Silverado, a choice of five engines is available on the pickup truck. You have the 4.3-litre V6 engine which churns out 286bhp, a 5.3-litre V8 producing 355bhp, a 6.2-litre V8 punching out 420bhp, also a 6.0-litre V8, which develops 360bhp and a 6.6-litre V8 producing 397bhp.

Taking care of the gearbox is an option of 6-speed or 8-speed automatic gearbox.

The Honda CR-V is an SUV and many consider it as a compact crossover and CR-V stands for "Comfortable Runabout Vehicle". The 4th generation Honda CR-V was launched in 2011 and the 5th generation is reportedly in thedevelopment stage.

The widely sold Toyota Camry is powered by thechoice of three engines, a 2.5-litre, four cylinder, hybrid model rated at 201bhp, a 2.5-litre, four-cylinder petrol engine churning out 178bhp and 230Nm of torque, and the third mill is a 3.5-litre V6 punching 268bhp of pure power. All of these engines come mated to 6-speed automatic gearbox.

In India, the Toyota Camry comes with the option of a 2.5-litre hybrid or a petrol engine.

Available in 1.4-litre and 1.6-litre in the petrol engine, also, seen is the 1.6-litre turbocharged petrol unit. Also is the 1.6-litre turbocharged diesel unit and a 2.0-litre petrol mill.

In India, we have the 1.8-litre petrol and 1.6-litre diesel on the 5th generation Hyundai Elantra.

The Golf from Volkswagen won the World Car of the Year in 2009 along with the Golf Mk6 and Golf Mk7 won it in 2013.

The powertrain on the Volkswagen Golf GTI is a 217bhp turbocharged 2.0-litre four cylinder engine, which is available with a choice of performance which will rack up the power to 227bhp.

As for the Volkswagen Golf R which produces a massive 296bhp of power from the turbocharged 2.0-litre, four-cylinder with 4WD.

In India, we have the 1.8-litre petrol and 1.4-litre diesel unit.



India has nearly half of the cars on this list, which reflect the interest global car manufacturer have in the Indian market.

Looking at the top two cars, one is a performance car and the other being passenger cars. A clear indication of a requirement of both types of cars needed to the market.

Toyota is being threatened by Volkswagen in terms of brand and Toyota will continue to provide the best of technology and engineering.
