Here is the list of best-selling cars in the world in the first half of 2016.
10. Chevrolet Silverado
The Chevrolet Silverado slots itself in the tenth spot in the ranking, it is a full-size/heavy duty pickup truck which has been production from 1998.
Chevrolet sold 307,845 units of the Silverado in the first half of 2016 and has moved from the 11th spot to the top 10.
Winning many awards for its capabilities, the Chevrolet Silverado is popular among the pickup truck enthusiasts.
Doing the duty for the Chevrolet Silverado, a choice of five engines is available on the pickup truck. You have the 4.3-litre V6 engine which churns out 286bhp, a 5.3-litre V8 producing 355bhp, a 6.2-litre V8 punching out 420bhp, also a 6.0-litre V8, which develops 360bhp and a 6.6-litre V8 producing 397bhp.
Taking care of the gearbox is an option of 6-speed or 8-speed automatic gearbox.
9. Honda CR-V
In its fourth generation, the Honda CR-V takes the ninth position with sales of 333,597 units in the first half of 2016. Honda has been enthralling customers around the world with the CR-V from 1995.
The Honda CR-V is an SUV and many consider it as a compact crossover and CR-V stands for "Comfortable Runabout Vehicle". The 4th generation Honda CR-V was launched in 2011 and the 5th generation is reportedly in thedevelopment stage.

8. Toyota Camry

In India, the Toyota Camry comes with the option of a 2.5-litre hybrid or a petrol engine.
7. Toyota RAV4
The first compact crossover SUV built by the Japanese manufacturer made its debut back in 1994. Currently, the Toyota RAV4 is in its fourth generation and has sold 346,791 units in the first half of 2016.
It has moved up the ladder from 10th position in 2015 in the top 10 best selling car in the world. Toyota sells the RAV4 is different states of tune in requirement to the country it is being sold.

5. Hyundai Elantra
The South Korean manufacturer has sold 363,490 maintaining its position at 5th from the previous year. Currently, the Hyundai Elantra is in its sixth generation and has been in production from 1992.
In India, the sixth generation is expected to hit the shores end of 2016. The current generation model ditches the Fluidic Sculpture 2.0 design and looks sporty with sharp lines.
Available in 1.4-litre and 1.6-litre in the petrol engine, also, seen is the 1.6-litre turbocharged petrol unit. Also is the 1.6-litre turbocharged diesel unit and a 2.0-litre petrol mill.
In India, we have the 1.8-litre petrol and 1.6-litre diesel on the 5th generation Hyundai Elantra.
4. Ford Focus
The Ford Focus known more for its racing pedigree in the WRC was initially produced for the roads back in 1998.
Ford has the third generation of the Focus and was launched in 2010. Ford has sold 367,479 units and moves one rank down in the list of top 10 best selling cars in the world.

3. Ford F-Series
The Ford F-Series is a light and heavy-duty pickup trucks and has been the automobile industry from 1948. One of the popular version of the F-Series is the F-150 which is produced over an insane 13 generations.

2. Volkswagen Golf
The VW Golf is the second best-selling car in the world with sales of 500,630 units being sold for the first half of 2016. Since its production from 1974, Volkswagen has built seven generations of the Golf.
The Golf from Volkswagen won the World Car of the Year in 2009 along with the Golf Mk6 and Golf Mk7 won it in 2013.
The powertrain on the Volkswagen Golf GTI is a 217bhp turbocharged 2.0-litre four cylinder engine, which is available with a choice of performance which will rack up the power to 227bhp.
As for the Volkswagen Golf R which produces a massive 296bhp of power from the turbocharged 2.0-litre, four-cylinder with 4WD.
1. Toyota Corolla
There are many titles added to the Toyota Corolla - became best-selling car worldwide by 1977, best-selling nameplate dislodging Volkswagen Beetle in 1997 are among the few titles that the Corolla enjoys.

As per the data, Toyota sold 634,298 units in the first half of 2016 and continues to rule the roost as the best-selling car in the world.

India has nearly half of the cars on this list, which reflect the interest global car manufacturer have in the Indian market.
Looking at the top two cars, one is a performance car and the other being passenger cars. A clear indication of a requirement of both types of cars needed to the market.
