Tata Motors will be expanding the Nano family by launching the Tata Nano CNG in the first half of 2013. The Nano CNG is expected to gain popularity in urban centres where CNG is widely available. The Nano does not have a competitor as such and hence we move on to the next upcoming car.

Mercedes-Benz which dropped to third spot in the premium carmakers' list below Audi and BMW has finally decided to go launch a car that will bring in volumes. The Mercedes-Benz A-Class will be launched in India in 2013 but it will not be an easy way out as BMW is also planning to launch 1-Series hatchback in India.

BMW and Mercedes-Benz have been fierce competitors across the globe and the rivalry now enters the premium hatchback segment with the arrival of the BMW 1-Series. The BMW 1-Series is based on the 3-Series platform and is not exactly a small car. The 1-Series is a perfect drivers car with all the DNA of a BMW and is expected to be priced aggressively when launched.

The Chevrolet Sail sedan is one of the most awaited models from the American carmaker's stables in 2013. The Sail Sedan will be launched in early 2013 with a price tag starting under INR 7 lakhs. It will be competing against the likes of the Swift DZire, Toyota Etios and Mahindra Verito.

The Tata Nano diesel's launch is probably one event that every car lover from across the globe would want to see. Although there will be nothing new in terms of the looks of the car, what will be interesting will be its diesel engine, mileage and price. As we said earlier, there is no particular competitor to the Nano diesel.

The compact sedan segment has turned out to be an attractive segment for carmakers. The latest to join the list of upcoming cars of 2013 is the Mahindra Verito CS. The Verito CS is eyeing the Swift DZire territory and do not be surprised if its price is under Rs.5 lakhs. Another compact sedan in the segment is the Tata Indigo CS.

The Wagon R has been a long running war horse for Maruti Suzuki. Suzuki is planning to revamp the Wagon R by the end of 2013 and do not be surprised if the new version's global launch happens in India. Suzuki has displayed a concept version of the upcoming Wagon R at the Tokyo Auto Salon.
