Volkswagen Plant
German auto major Volkswagen is reportedly exploring the possibilities of setting up a manufacturing facility in Gujarat. The company has put on hold it's Rs 2,000 crore investment plan in Maharashtra.

Reports are that Volkswagen heads had met the state officials and they were shown lands in and around Ahmedabad and Vadodra. However, the exact investment figure is unknown though sources close to the development said that it will be a smaller plant than those of the other companies' in the state.

The company had put on hold its expansion plan in Maharashtra due to an unresolved issue over VAT refund. Volkswagen had earlier announced that the company would infuse more money into its India operations to increase production capacity. The company currently operates its plants at Chakan and Aurangabad in Maharashtra.

However, a spokesperson for Volkswagen denied reports of its expansion plan in Gujarat. He said that the company was not looking to set up a new plant as of now.

The state of Gujarat is becoming the largest auto hub of the country. With General Motors and Tata Motors already manufacturing their vehicles in the state, a facility for Ford Motors is under construction and auto manufacturers such as Maruti Suzuki, Hero Motocorp and Peugeot Citroen are set to build their manufacturing facilities there.
