Toddler Dies Inside Car With AC Running

Do Not Leave A Child Inside A Car
Chennai is a place where you need to run the car's AC in almost every month of the year. Little did Maruthi, the father of two year old Ilamaran, know that his own car would be the death bed of his son. A ten minute meeting stretching to an hour meant his son spent one hour locked inside a car with the AC running. The boy was found unconscious and was declared dead when taken to a hospital.

This shocking incident happened just yesterday in Chennai. Maruthi had left his son locked inside his car while attending a short meeting. He had kept the air conditioner on to keep his son comfortable, only to find him dead after an hour.

Reports of such shocking instances when children are killed while kept unattended inside cars have been reported from foreign countries too. One of the major reason for such events to happen is excess heat inside cars. Cars tend to get as there is little circulation of air. If your car's AC is faulty do not expect sufficient air to circulate inside the car particularly when it is standing.

First things first, leaving children inside a car and locking it is itself a grave mistake. Had he kept the car windows slightly open, the possibility of the child dying might have been lower.

The possibility of a faulty AC poisoning the kid cannot be ruled out. Always ensure your car's AC is in proper running condition. Experts have said a faulty or damaged AC can emit poisonous gases that can prove to be fatal when the widows are closed completely.

The police are yet to investigate the death of the two year old child in Chennai. But experts are of the opinion that excessive heat and perspiration could have also caused the death.

Another possibility is that of carbon monoxide poisoning. You need to keep the car's engine running to keep the AC on. But if some of the engine's smoke enters the car's cabin, you will slowly start breathing in carbon monoxide which does not have a distinct smell or odour. This gas can cause slow death before any one can realize what is happening.

Please do not leave your children inside your cars even for short durations. You might feel the car will be a safe place for your child but there are many things that can prove fatal if proper care is not taken.
