Renault-Nissan To Ramp Up Output To Double Figures

Renault Nissan
Renault-Nissan, the joint venture between the French and Japanese carmaker is full on with its expansion plans in India. Reports are that the partners are looking to increase production to 8 lakh cars, double the figure being produced now, at its Chennai facility by 2015-16.

Reports say that the joint venture is planning to take on market leader like Maruti Suzuki and Hyundai Motors with a range of about 20 cars between them across different segments.

It will also continue its cross badging strategy, producing a car and selling it under both Renault and Nissan brands, which it is already following now. This will help the partnership save costs on design and development of a all new model.

The Nissan Micra and the Renault pulse are an example of the partners' cross badging strategy in India. Both cars are all the same, but being sold under different brands.

Nissan India managing director Takayuki Ishida was quoted as saying: "We have increased the production capacity from 200,000 units per year to 400,000 from April, 2012. As demand increases in local and export markets, we keep exploring options of expanding the business."
