Most Second Hand Cars Have A Dark History

A study on used cars in UK have found that nine out of ten cars have a not so great history. The study based on around 10,000 used cars found that every three out of ten cars sold were either stolen or written off and refurbished or with hefty bank loans pending.

Cars that are more than five years old were most likely to come with trouble while newer ones were likely to come with hidden debt. Interestingly, the study says that 93% of Renault Clio hatchbacks sold have a dark history, meanwhile, the sporty Ford Focus and popular VW Golf hatches were highly susceptible to outstanding bank debt.

The study was conducted by monitoring service Experian AutoCheck with information from police, insurance firms and banks. Shockingly, the prestigious Land Rover cars are also in the list of most stolen cars.

A spokesperson for the research firm said: "To buy your used car with absolute confidence it is important to properly research the vehicle's hidden history." The study found Britain's Essex as the write-off capital with 17% of motors on sale being reported as unroadworthy.
